The "R. Trigona" hospital is located in Noto, in the province of Syracuse, in Contrada S. Giovanni, along the SS 287 (Noto – Palazzolo Acreide). The building has two different construction dates: a portion of the structure was built between 1964 and 1974, and the subsequent expansion dates back to 1984. The building consists of thirteen buildings, plus an additional structure at the rear, which have a predominantly parallelepiped shape on a plan that is not always regular.

The renovation of a strategic building, regardless of its architectural and/or artistic value, is generally more appropriate the deeper the knowledge of the building, from its evolution from its origins to its current state, from the materials to the construction techniques and the load-bearing structure.
The intervention, thus designed, achieves adequate safety levels as required by the 2018 NTC (Construction Standards for Buildings). It is also clear that the interventions involve demolition/removal, with subsequent restoration/replacement, and new construction. We discuss in detail the interferences between the structural and architectural designs, and therefore the demolition of partition walls and perimeter walls to create the new earthquake-resistant elements.
