The project site is located in via Casella, within the inhabited nucleus of Castegnato, in an area already characterized by the presence of school buildings. The intervention is inserted in a context without environmental, landscape or historical-testimonial constraints. The school is conceived as a "permanent laboratory", a dynamic and flexible environment capable of adapting to different educational and social needs.

The structure is spread over three floors, with classrooms, laboratories, administrative offices, a gym, a library and a canteen. Particular attention was paid to the design of the external spaces, which include green areas, courtyards, squares and paths dedicated to sustainable mobility. The building was designed according to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency criteria.
The load-bearing structure is made of X-LAM wood, an eco-friendly material with excellent thermal and acoustic performance. The external casing is highly performing, with an external insulation system and thermally broken aluminum windows. The coverage of the lateral wings of the building is characterized by an extensive green roof, which contributes to improving the thermal and acoustic comfort of the internal environments
The photovoltaic system, solar panels for hot water and the high-efficiency heat pump system guarantee significant energy savings and the reduction of CO2 emissions. The project involves the construction of all the systems necessary for the correct functioning of the school, including electrical, special, mechanical, water-sanitary and fire-fighting systems.
The electrical system was designed to guarantee maximum efficiency and safety, with the use of low-consumption LED sources and a centralized control system (BMS) for the optimized management of lighting and solar shading. The mechanical system, based on a high temperature heat pump, ensures the thermal comfort of the internal environments, while the water-sanitary system has been designed to guarantee the hygiene and safety of users.
The fire prevention system, compliant with current regulations, involves the installation of UNI 25 hose reels and a pressurization unit powered by a diesel motor pump. The project of the new “Edmondo De Amicis” primary school represents an important initiative for the community of Castegnato. The building, modern, functional and eco-sustainable, was designed to offer a stimulating and safe learning environment for students, as well as constituting an important point of reference for the social and cultural life of the neighborhood.
