MUNICIPAL POOL
BIVONA (AG)

The project to complete the municipal swimming pool in Bivona included a series of interventions aimed at making the structure fully functional and compliant with current regulations regarding safety, energy saving and accessibility.
One of the main interventions involved modifying the depth of the two swimming pools, in order to make them suitable for competitive swimming. This modification was achieved through the creation of a sanitary void, obtained through the use of disposable modular elements in recycled polypropylene and tubes of variable heights, filled with lightweight and thermal concrete. This solution made it possible to reduce the weight of the structure, guarantee adequate safety values and prepare a suitable substrate for the installation of the final covering of the tanks.
As regards the roofs, a single curved roof in laminated wood was created over the pool room and a flat roof, also in laminated wood, over the hall.

Both covers have been designed to be non-thrusting and ensure adequate thermal insulation and waterproofing. The roofing package consists of fir boarding, a vapor barrier/brake layer, thermal insulation in rigid sheets of expanded polystyrene, a synthetic waterproof covering in FPO and a tear-proof contrast curb.
As regards the fixtures, new external thermal break aluminum fixtures with thermo-acoustic insulating glass were installed, as well as two non-structural curtain wall windows in pre-painted and thermally insulated aluminium. The existing internal doors, in poor condition, were replaced with new hollow-core doors covered in plastic laminate.
The interventions on the plasters involved the staking and restoration of the deteriorated plaster in the rooms already plastered, while the rooms in their raw state were plastered with premixed plaster based on gypsum and light, insulating aggregates, guaranteeing a contribution to thermal insulation and REI 120 fire protection.

…a space that can be used by the whole community, at different times, experienced by students, teachers and children as a great cultural hub that induces attention, curiosity and the exchange of knowledge.

The external walls were plastered with external civil plaster and colored paste plaster. As regards the flooring and coverings, the tub room was covered with blue vinyl fabric and the tub surround with brick-colored polyvinyl sheets. The lane marking strips and the PVC safety closure were also installed. The public area and the steps on the first floor were paved with single-layer linoleum, while the terraces were paved with single-fired tiles. Stairs, thresholds and windowsills were covered with marble slabs. The external arrangement involved the creation of a flexible pavement composed of a foundation layer in mixed grain size, a base layer in bituminous conglomerate and a connecting layer in closed bituminous conglomerate. Pavements were also built with self-locking concrete blocks and external enclosure walls in reinforced concrete. The project to complete the municipal swimming pool in Bivona has therefore made it possible to create a modern, functional and safe structure, capable of satisfying the needs of users and athletes, in compliance with current regulations.
